GOAL

Ok, then...Here we are, meeting in Cyberspace. The whole idea of this interaction would be to start commenting on the different activities we do in CPE class 2016. As this seems to be pretty vast, let us concentrate our contributions to make on the SLOW READING we  have been exercising since almost the beginning of the current year. So, I expect you to feel free as to how much input you provide to these interactions and hopefully, lead the exchanges we will surely be having. ENJOY!!!

  1. Personally, I take pleasure in the "Slow Reading" new activity done at school! Thus, I rejoice that we teenagers are actually investing some time in immersing ourselves in stories, according to personal taste and preferences when it comes to reading.
In my case, I'm not accustomed to perusing at my leisure! Hence, I tend to read just for school matters without being fully aware doing it for sheer pleasure is one of the most advantageous as well as recommended activities since we are literate.
Ultimately, I justify myself by stating that, whenever I do have some time to read at home, I do it in a hasty quick manner, blind and oblivious to what's happening in the story. This is the main reason why I truly value and treasure getting acquainted with compelling reading during this slow, though wholesome and remarkably productive, reading.

  2. The most remarkable aspect of this activity, in my opinion, is the climate that it generates. Whenever we start, the classroom is filled with a nice, calm atmosphere; everyone truly focusing on their reading. Obviously the numerous vocabulary structures, words, and phrases we acquire from this slow reading are beneficial to future writings, and to expand our speaking performance. But I believe the most valuable aspect of this activity is the state you are in while doing it- fully self conscious, paying full attention to what you are doing , mixed with being disconnected of it all for a while, immersed on that sole activity. I do believe, though, the time it very scarce and often, when we are starting to focus, books must be closed.

  3. Thanks for posting, Martu. You know what they say: ´Time is Tyrant'. If anyone could just focus in the way you´ve described above for some moments, the slow reading goal would be accomplished...

  4. In this hectic world we live in, rarely do we take the time to fully immerse ourselves into one activity. In the case of reading at home, I usually get distracted by very silly things. However, when we slow read at school we pay attention to every single detail, reading every line and trying to find out what every word meands. Not only does this help us to improve our vocabulary but also certains extracts can be worth sharing.

  7. To introduce myself into this lovely activity, I must say that i love it. It is very interesting how by reading slowly you can notice new words, expressions or quotes you wouldn´t have notice by reading fast.

Here is a word that I found reading Divergent in class:

    Sting: Sharp pain /stɪŋ/

  9. Personally, this is most interesting activity in English we´ve made. What makes the Slow Reading so attractive is the vocabulary we can learn with it, while having the pleasure of reading something we like. Also, I love the atmosphere of silence and learning we have with this activity. I hope we keep doing it!

    1. It could even be meditative if you set your mind on it, and thus supress the need for constant blab. Thanks for posting!

  10. I quite enjoy this activity called "Slow reading". Not only is it interesting and relaxing, but you can also learn a lot, be it new vocabulary or an unusual phrase you can maybe incorporate in your writings. I would love it if we continue doing this

  11. I certainly agree with the comments above. What I would like to underline the most is the fact that in class, I am free to take my time investigating the meaning or definition of words, expressions or phrases I didn't know, whereas at home I just take no notice of them and if I can, I figure the meaning out by context.
I definitely enjoy this activity, not only does it helps you assimilate useful vocabulary or structures, but also it helps me to wind down for a bit.
I strongly hope to see the upshot of the Slow Reading activity in my writings!

  13. Personally, I really enjoy slow reading and I look forward to it every week! I believe it's a really nice activity because even though I love reading it isn't something I do as often as I would like to so I like having the space to do that at school being the place I spend most of my day in. Also I agree with Mari in the fact that whenever I read at home I never look up the meanings of the words, I just guess what they mean from context and although that works for me I like that doing this activity I have to look them up because that way I actually learn the meaning and can maybe use them if I get the opportunity on a writing.

  14. As I see it, Slow Reading is one of the most enjoyable experiences we practise at school. Not only are we given the time to read something we are interested at but also we can learn new words, structures, or even a paragraph a companion reads. Also, I love the climate that is generated when everyone is focused on what he or she is reading as it creates a peaceful and harmonious feeling. Moreover, what I like the most about this activity, is that we have the time to read in class because sometimes we don´t have the chance to do it at home.

  16. What really saddens me is that technological innovations are emerging every day and we are so accostumed to use them that old materials such as printed books have lost value for us. Luckily we have been excersising this new activity! http://slowreadingco.com/ states that one of the main points of the club consists of getting away from pinging electronic devices and read, uninterrupted.
As we obviously do not like textbooks, this great way of still being able to immerse in a book only because of pleasure brings the wonderful and relaxing experience of reading to life again. Because I believe there is nothing like curling up with a delightful book, I truly appreciate the fact that you as a teacher, provides us the time and space for doing it. I hugely enjoy the reading club of thursday classes!!!

  18. There's nothing more pleasuring than the smell you get when you read through the pages of a book. Personally, even though I may not participate often when it comes to sharing your experiencies, I am fond of the activity of inmersing myself in a book for a couple of minutes and just read and relax. Hope to Keep this activity alive for the rest of the year.

  20. As we haven't been doing this activity lately I now realize how much I used to enjoy it. I believe it's an enriching thing to do, not only both grammar and vocabulary wise, but also for us to keep in touch with books, as outside school we tend not to read just for the sake of it. Besides, we have the plus of sharing what most strikes us with the rest of the group and the other way around. I hope we keep doing slow reading all Thursdays.
